This beautiful, English silver nail buffer is from the Edwardian period 1909. It clearly once formed part of a grand manicure set but now it is a lovely, and still usable, adornment for a lady's dressing table.
The buffer measures 2¾ (7.3cms) wide by 1½" (3.8cms) tall. It weighs 15.5 grams.
It has a most attractive shape and is lavishly ornamented with scrolls and flowers in repoussé silver. On the top to one side is the maker's mark `B & Co' for Broadway and Co of Birmingham, England. This company was founded in 1900. Also present are full English hallmarks – the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver and the date letter `K' for 1909.
The pale fabric buffer is reasonably clean.
This delightful object will arrive carefully and attractively presented.
