Edmund Dulac’s Fairy Book, Fairy Tales of the Allied Nations

This is a very early, undated edition of Dulac's Fairy Book, published around 1916 by George H. Doran Co, New York. Edmund Dulac was a well-known illustrator commissioned to create illustrations for special editions of classic stories. His beautiful watercolors grace such stories as: The Tempest, The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, Sinbad the Sailor and other stories from the Arabian Knights. In this book, he collected fairy tales from the nations allied with Britain in The Great War. The book is illustrated with sixteen mounted color illustrations which are in wonderful condition. The title page of each tale also has an original line drawing. Tales include: Snegorotchka, Russia; The Buried Moon, England; The Serpent Prince, Italy; The Hind of the Wood, France; The Fire Bird, Russia; Urashima Taro, Japan; The Story of the Bird Feng, China; and several others. Black cloth with gold title and decoration on spine. The book is in overall good condition with the following flaws: The spine is loose and frayed at the top and bottom, the front cover is slightly loose and has bumped corners. Otherwise the pages are very clean and odorless, the tipped in illustrations are all present and in wonderful condition. The rest of the binding is nice and tight.
