Five Numbered Limited Edition Books By Eugene Sue

This set of books will look great in any library. In addition to being Limited Edition books, they also have very pretty bindings, which is always desirable for a library. Unfortunately, only The Wandering Jew is complete with two volumes, the other books are part of sets that are incomplete. The other books are The mysteries of Paris Volume I, and two volumes of the Seven Deadly Sins series: Luxury and Gluttony and Pride. The books are in good condition. They are not dated, but research shows these were probably written and published in 1901. The red leather bindings show signs of age at the corners and tops of the spines. The gold lettering is superb however and the marbled end papers are in good shape. The paper this was printed on is very high quality and many pages are uncut. There are numerous engravings throughout these books by Mercier, Poiteau and Adrian Marcel. Joseph Marie Eugène Sue (20 January 1804 – 3 August 1857) was a French novelist. He was born in Paris, the son of a distinguished surgeon in Napoleon's army, and is said to have had the Empress Joséphine for godmother. Sue himself acted as surgeon both in the Spanish campaign undertaken by France in 1823 and at the Battle of Navarino (1828). In 1829 his father's death put him in possession of a considerable fortune, and he settled in Paris.
