19th C New England Swing Handle Lidded Oak Splint Basket, Lunch box

The first thing I want to say about this basket is: Look at that patina! This basket came from the estate of an antique dealer. She knew her stuff.

This basket comes from New England and is made of splint oak. The handles are carved and the important junctions have nails. There is a lid to the top, which has a flat piece of oak and the lid is hinged to that. There is a small latch to the side to hold the lid closed. There are 2 movable carved wood handles. All the hardware is in excellent shape. The bottom of the basket has some breaks, which is consistent with age (see photo's). Basket measures 11" wide by 11" long and is 5" deep. The handles come up 4½".
