Orientalist Watercolor by James McBey (1883-1959) titled "The Pyramids of Giza".

The artist was born in Newburgh Scotland near Aberdeen. He attended Gray's School of Art. He was appointed Official War Artist in 1917 after his depictions of The Western Front. He also did a stint in Egypt and Palestine and produced a vast amount of work from that campaign. McBey was avid traveler and drew inspiration from the places he visited which stretched from North America to The United Kingdom and the Middle East. McBey enjoyed living and working in North Africa and eventually settled in Tangier and Marrakesh. McBey's skills as a watercolorist capture the atmosphere and his impressions of that particular point in time. This work depicts women carrying bundles in the morning to the Nile to do their washing, before the midday heat comes. The watercolor measures 13.1" by 20.2" and is mounted in a period gilt frame. It is signed and dated on the lower left.
