1940 NJ Delaware River Jesse Heisler Snuggle Head Black Duck

This 2 piece wood Black Duck decoy was made by Jesse Heisler, Burlington, NJ in 1940. Jesse Heisler(1891-1943) was a commercial decoy maker and also made boats for a living. He made Black Ducks, Canvas Backs, Pintail, Mallards & Scaup. His early decoys have a rounded body. He started making flat bottom decoys around 1940. This decoy has a flat bottom and flattened lead weight fastened with copper round head nails. The weight is marked 1940 on 2 sides. The decoy has carved raised wings, and deep grove between the wings back of the neck. The head is low with glass eyes, carved bill edges and nostrils. The decoy has original feather painting. It has a couple of dings on the bill and some rubs. It is overall in good condition. it is 14" long. 5.25" tall and 5.25" across.
