This little Black papier-ache doll has her original curly Black skin wig, glass earrings and wonderful blue painted wood boots with bright orange stockings. She has a full molded & painted red mouth, nose dots eye dots, deeply molded and recessed eye sockets and bulgy glass eyes. Her turned wood body is painted black. S. She wears an old 2 piece red and ivory candy cane striped linen dress, linen pantaloons , petticoat, apron and cap with pull string. She has black painted wood arms and carved painted wood legs.. Her clothing is hand stitched. There is an 1987 appraisal attached to the under side of her skirt. It reads " Black paper mache with glass eyes, 5 piece wooden body with painted socks & shoes. Pierced ears, original wig, belton type holes for stringing circa 1870's. Appraised value $600-$650". This little doll is probably from the Sonneberg Region of Germany and may date as early as 1860. She is an appealing little cabinet size doll. These dolls are not often found in such good condition.
