This is such a gorgeous antique woven lidded basket or box from the Victorian Era. It has the original silk lining in tufts of padding. Each indent in the tufting has a teeny silk covered button. I love the shape of the basket and the darker shade of wooden dowels that are used to accent the shape. On the bottom of the box there is a winding key to begin the beautiful (unidentified) tune that sounds like a French melody. I had in mind when I purchased this lovely item making it a display trunk for one of my favorite cabinet size dolls. The light shredding of the lining was not bothersome to me because I knew it had survived for over a hundred years and still remained in relatively good condition. There is no unraveling in the weave and the box is very sturdy with a wooden bottom. It can still be made into a beautiful display trunk for someone's special bebe or German all bisque. The padded top can easily accommodate a small wardrobe.
