I feel sure there is an 18-19 inch French Fashion out there who is searching far and wide for an original antique ensemble with matching hat and leather boots. Although somewhat frayed from age, the two piece hand-stitched ensemble is still quite nice and with a bit of mending, will enhance the wardrobe of your lady. The base fabric is a magenta wool silk with a very gentle design in the fabric. The edges have a magenta silk satin flat edge trim with mitered corners and a delicate ecru French lace bit of trim that peeks out in a floral design around the coat, at the neckline, across the shoulders and around the edge of the sleeve openings. The skirt and jacket bodice have ruched panels of matching magenta silk satin. To balance the look, the sleeves are edged with a ruffle of the magenta silk satin. The skirt has a two-inch row of tiny pleats made from the silk wool fabric. Above the pleats the skirt has two rows of ruched panels that meet the silk satin panel in the front. The skirt and jacket are completely lined in the old brownish lining fabric found on most of the original fashion clothing. The top portion of the skirt which is underneath the jacket is made of just the lining fabric and it has shredded extensively but is still wearable since it is underneath the jacket. The front silk satin panel of the jacket has some wear on the ruching but it is still well in tact. The matching hat is a flat circular shape of old straw with a magenta feather and ribbon with a velvet tassel that hangs to one side. Someone may have stitched the old ribbon ties to the hat to keep it on their doll's head but it matches the ecru lace on the dress and looks nice. The back opening of the jacket has decorative matching cloth-covered buttons down the back (somewhat worn) but it actually closes by hidden old wire hooks and thread loops (all in tact). The skirt waistband (also frayed but wearable) has a button and buttonhole at the back. The boots are heeled and have front buckles. They have some re-enforcement on the inside which has made them stable. They have decorative tiny shoe buttons on each side with a few missing. There may have been laces that crossed and lapped around the buttons in the front, but they stay on the feet just fine without the laces.
