10 inch Frozen Charlie doll, ca: 1850's, with flesh tinted face and neck, curls low on forehead and around ears and clenched fist with arms bent forward. These big china frozen dolls are certainly not plentiful as they are easily broken due to the hollow bodies and overall weight of the doll. They are sometimes called "bathing dolls" and the children played with them and bathed them. This particular model has one of the round faces with a wide forehead and fat cheeks. He has grooved modeling in his hair with lots of swirls in the direction of the hair. The detail of the curls around his face is extraordinary. I see a few small pits in the china which is common in these early dolls, and a tiny speck of misplaced paint over his right eye. The "light" spots you see on his black hair is simply glare from the lights. His head is without spots.
