A 23-25 inch French Bebe or German Character doll would feel comfortable and appropriately dressed in this lovely nautical style outfit with a matching sailor cap. The hues are in red and taupe with off-white trim at the neck and sleeve edges. The fabric is a nubby cotton that looks like linen. I have had this outfit in my "stash" for years and several of my own dolls wore it. It is made to fit a fairly "stocky" bodied doll. The gathered skirt is attached to a cotton bodice that has the drop waist style and fits only at the hips. It was made by a very talented seamstress from Germany who has made some of the most elaborate costumes I have seen, using the techniques, fabrics and styles from the 1900's. The skirt, jacket and hat are fully lined with cotton and what seams are left uncovered are done by hand with overcast stitches. The stripes are made of ribbon with top-stitching. The cap has a ribbon bow of the same color. I recall one Jumeau in my collection that was 24 inches tall and stole the show in this outfit when she was displayed. The closures are buttons and buttonholes. The measurements: 15 inches from shoulder to bottom of skirt; 5 inches around sleeve opening; 10 inches around neck opening; 6-1/2 inches across back of shoulders from sleeve seam to sleeve seam; 7 inch sleeve length (which can be pushed up to 3/4 length); 15 inches around band on cap (easily altered to fit smaller circumference with a gathering stitch).
