This small silk pillow/cushion dates from the early years of the Twentieth Century. The front is made of a beautiful satin finished silk, in a gentle shade of ivory/cream. The backing fabric is an extremely fine silk in a very subtle shade of shell pink. There is a perfectly matched ivory/cream fringe around the pillow's edge.
Measuring 6" square (8" square, including the fringe) the cushion pad has been sewn in and there is no opening. Decorated with hand painted roses, enhanced with a scattering of tiny, clear diamantes, which catch the light beautifully and look like dew amongst the rose petals. Each corner of the pillow has been decorated with a single pink ribbon rose sewn on top of a green silk ribbon bow.
There are two of these pillows, with the ribbon roses at each corner and they are offered for sale separately. They were purchased in Scotland from the estate of a passionate doll collector, along with one matching larger octagonal cushion and four other small cushions, identical in size to these two but without the ribbon rose decoration in the corners. They were used by their owner as part of the display of her extensive doll collection.
They are truly lovely, very delicate, feminine and unusual. In amazing condition considering they are around 100 years old!! A wonderful addition to a textile collection, or perfect in use or on display around the home.
