This is a lovely item for your boudoir! It would happily function in a variety of roles: Nightdress Case. Pyjama Case. Lingerie Case. Pillow.
Beautifully made in a man made fabric similar in looks to crepe de chine, in a lovely shade of green. The lining is in a much lighter brighter shade of green. There is a wonderful pleated edging all around the entire case. The decoration is simple but very effective. There are three rows of beautiful swagged swirling circles, in two shades of pink, edged with little green leaves. These really "pop" against the plain green of the background. Then there is a wonderfully loose quilting stitch between the rows of "flowers".
Created in the 1930's or early 1940's. The case measures 16 1/2" wide x 11". The pocket inside measures 10" deep. This case is in wonderful sound condition. There is a small mark on the back of the case, around the middle and near the bottom. It is just about visible in the photograph of the back but very hard to see, you have to look closely to find it!
This is a wonderful example of the design ethic from this time. Well made but simple. The angular lines of Art Deco have given way to a more natural flow but the elements themselves, have been portrayed at their most basic, e.g. circles representing roses. Truly lovely.
