This is a beautiful and unusual five piece vanity set. Created in a wonderfully delicate shade of palest pink English bone china by Adderley.
The focal point of the set is the large powder bowl which measures just over 6" in diameter and stands about 4" high. This piece dates from around the 1930s and stands on three brightly gilded ball shaped feet, about the same size as the handle on the lid. This bowl is very understated, the floral decoration playing "second fiddle" to the sculptural beauty of the overall shape of the bowl.
The two matching candle holders each measure about 4" in diameter and stand some 2 5/8" high. Both are created from the same soft pink china and are wonderfully highlighted with gilding and two deep pink porcelain roses with green leaves.
Finally, there are the two small covered bowls. Each measures 2 1/4" at its widest x 2 1/8" to the top the porcelain rose decoration on the lid. There is a tiny bit of damage to several of the leaf tips on one of the lids. This can clearly be seen in photograph 6.
Overall this set is in amazing condition. The gilding is in great shape and the only noticeable rubbing is to the base of the ball feet on the large powder bowl. This is the perfect vanity set for the vintage romantic, who adores both pink and roses, with a hint of gold for splendour!! A stunningly beautiful combination that works really well. A delightful and gorgeous addition to the boudoir or vanity table. Truly lovely AND useful!
