This cleverly carved wooden brooch offers the desirable look of Bakelite without the hefty price tag. It is shaped like a basket filled with early plastic flowers in white, reddish pink and yellow. It has wonderful carving and green painted accents on the leaves. Has a "C" closure with no safety catch. Likely dates to the 1930s. Measures 2 3/4" x 2 3/4", but because of the chunkiness it seems larger. Condition is excellent for this type of older wooden jewelry - no chips or cracks in the wood and only one leaf shows a bit of minor wear to the paint. This piece appears in “Warman’s Costume Jewelry” by Pamela Y. Wiggins (Krause, 2014) on p. 44.
