Soutache Baby Cape, Antique - Cotton - For Doll Costuming

Those of us who love to do our own costuming are always on the lookout for those special antique items that can be used to create truly spectacular doll clothing. This antique baby cape just might fill the bill for your costuming dreams! The cape is made of pure white cotton that has been bordered with elaborate soutache work along the hem and up the front. It has been laundered, has no holes or thin areas or loose soutache and is ready to use. When laid flat it forms a half-circle. The hem is about 60" (152 cm) long, and the front edge of the cape is 16 1/4" (41 cm) high. It closes at the neck with a button and loop closure. Please note that there is a bit of cotton pieced into the hem area at the front at the cape - done in its making as a way to enlarge the original piece of cotton that forms the base of the cape. There is a separate bias strip of cotton that forms the hem of the cape. The bottom of the hem to the top edge of the soutache work measures 3 3/4" (9.2 cm), and the front edge of the cape to the edge of the soutache work tapers from 3 1/2" (9 cm) to 2 1/2" (6 cm) at the neck.
