Beautiful chestnut wood Victorian sideboard with a marble top, oval mirrored back and lots of leaf, nut and foliage carving including a wonderfully carved lions head at the top center.
Hand cut dovetails join the drawers. This piece dates from the 1865-70s. Yes, the doors are in the wrong position in the picture but we have switched them so the carved nuts and leaves are in the proper orientation!! Whoever worked on this prior to our purchase had the doors switched.
The interior of the drawers still has the old mustard colored milk paint. A testament to its authenticity.
As to be expected on an item of this age and use there are a few places that the carving is missing.
For full disclosure-the marble has a slight cup to it which I did not notice when I bought this piece in Virginia. Had I know this I still would have bought this fine piece. The cup will still be there when your get it and should not be replaced, this piece is all original.
Price includes cleaning, waxing, loose items or any other minor defects, and recoating with satin lacquer or shellac. It does not include stripping and refinishing, which is unnecessary.
