A beautiful mahogany dressing table or vanity. Wonderful ribbon stripe mahogany grain it the top! This has a double serpentine front with two drawers over two smaller drawers. The piece is supported on four cabriole legs ending with well done carved three toed feet at the front and square tapered legs at the rear. The original shaped beveled mirror is decorated with leafy and shell carvings. The hardware is original. The glass faceted drawer pulls with the solid brass ferule base match the mirror support hardware.
As would be expected, the mirror shows its 100-120 years. It is a clear and good mirror with the exception of the bottom right which shows some silvering deterioration. A close picture shows this worn area. I do not recommend resilvering old mirrors unless the deterioration of the silver renders it unusable and then it is an item by item decision. Also there is a picture showing a replacement back on the mirror, which i forgot to stain--but will.
Piece looks elegant and fine as we have done some restoration. The original coating was cleaned and we recoated the piece with satin lacquer. Also notice the burn at the left mirror support. We purposely left that as it is an interesting characteristic caused by the careless use of a candle.
Newer picture shows this item at Oooodles Antiques (Kay 8504532050), where i have a dozen or more items displayed, two blocks south of my warehouse. As you can see it is a very nice environment.
With the mirror removed this could be used as a desk.
