This oak canopy chair or throne chair is heavily carved and decorated. It is certainly one of a kind. Bought in East Texas from Mrs. Prater at Liz-Beth Antiques, who obtained it from a client in Scotland. It was said to come from an old estate in the highlands. It is oak and has wonderful and outstanding carvings. It is a reproduction of a 17th century style chair and was made around 1875. I have not worked on this chair yet. It is as I bought it 15 or more years ago and has been covered in the corner of my shop waiting for me to get to work since that time. It should be in a medium to dark oak color as things of that time were often fumed to darken the oak. It would look best, in my opinion with leather upholstery. Whoever worked on it a couple of decades ago lightened it and did no justice to this fine item. But that will be corrected.
I have decided to sell this only after restoration, the price will include complete restoration and reupholstery with leather in a chestnut brown color. The wood will be done with a penetrating oil dye stain in a medium dark oak that will NOT obscure the beautiful oak grain and will enhance the carvings.
This is not a church chair the crown is a Monarch crown.
