A beautiful 15" antique German Bahr & Proschild bisque doll. This is the #224 or 273 mold, but is unmarked. Her bisque is excellent - very high quality, creamy and smooth, just lovely!
She has a gorgeous face, with a lovely serene look. Her costume provides her with a subtle regal look - She looks like a young Elizabethan princess.
She has skillful multi stroke brows, painted upper and lower lashes, wonderful liquid brown glass sleep eyes set on a weighted rocker, (lids have been painted where wax is missing), red accent in the eye corners and nostrils, an open mouth with 4 upper teeth, painted shapely lips, rosy cheeks (one very small rub), mouth and chin dimples, pierced ears with old earrings. Her mohair wig and pate I believe is also original. The wig is somewhat matted in the back, but can be smoothed out.
When purchased, I believed she was absolutely perfect. But not until a recent flashlight testing did I find a very small, tight U shaped hairline at the top of her forehead on the right side. It is slight. It dips down 1/8 inch and then about 1/2 inch long and hooks back up. There is no threat to spread as is only near rim. This is impossible to see with the naked eye and will not photograph. You would probably never know it was there, if I didn't tell you.
Her early original straight wrist jointed composition and wood body retains the original finish, and is in very good condition with only minor scuffing. It is tightly strung and poses perfectly.
Her costume was made for her at some point in her life.. I'd say it is approx. 40 years old.. but just a guess. The lace is antique. This dress is not new by any means, but not an antique either. It consists of a lovely deep red velvet top with a large antique lace collar and lace trim on the sleeves and a satin cummerbund attached at the waist. The skirt portion is red satin with ruffles at the bottom. She has a matching velvet hat with pretty fawn and taupe antique feathers. She is also wearing an antique full muslin slip, a cotton half slip with a lace hem with a pair of matching bloomers, newer fancy weaved socks and old red leather shoes with side snaps, heels and bows. They are ca 1930's and a bit too wide.
She poses with vintage millinery flowers that she seems to enjoy the fragrance of, and these are included.
As you can see she is a breathtaking doll! She will look so stunning displayed in a lighted glass doll cabinet.
