An exceptionally beautiful large 34" antique closed mouth Tete Jumeau fashion doll with a stunning child's face, made in France c. 1880's. This is a very rare find and while not perfect, affords an opportunity to obtain an exquisite doll for a bargain price. This beauty has a pressed bisque swivel head on a kid-edged bisque shoulder plate. She is stamped Depose//TeTe Jumeau//Bte S.G.D.G.//13//XM. She has a scrape on her upper forehead that ends with a tight hairline at the crown. When her wig is on it is not seen. There is another tight hair line on the left side of her head, (pictured) and both are completely hidden by her light brown curly human hair wig with original cork pate. The large head circumference is 16-1/4". Her head is very stable and no threat of breaking. Lines are only exterior and not seen on the inside of the head.
She has the face of the portrait dolls - with the exceptional and rare chubby character features of a child. She has painted multi-stroke feathered brows, stunning original blue paperweight spiral glass eyes, long painted upper and lower lashes, a sensual closed mouth with painted and shaded lips, blush cheeks, a chin dimple and pierced ears.
She has her original bisque breast plate and leather gusseted kid fashion body. Her wire framed individual kid fingers are each separated and she has a pair of long elegant opera gloves that accompany her. (not shown, but very nice - ask for pic if interested). She has stitched and separated toes. The body is in outstanding condition throughout. It is drawn up a bit over time but displays very well in a sitting position or on a stand.
She is wearing her antique original long floral print taffeta gown. It looks nearly perfect at first glance but upon close inspection there are some holes and tears in the skirt portion that are hidden amongst the print and hard to see. There is some light fraying of the fabric in different locations . She is also wearing undergarments which include a cotton full slip, an antique stiff multi-layered 1/2 slip, and antique pantaloons. She also has gorgeous antique, high quality hard sole leather shoes and socks which may be original. They are exceptional.
If she were perfect her selling price would be $11,000 & up -but now, because of the hairlines, here is a chance to own this masterpiece for a fraction of her value!
She came from a Boston museum (part of the New England Historical Society) where she was proudly displayed for many years.
This rare exceptionally beautiful large Tete Jumeau fashion poupee with darling Bébé face, has a stellar presence and could be the highlight of your doll collection.
