Sugilite, Opal, Quartz and Spinel Sterling Silver Necklace

The featured gemstone with this piece is a relatively rare mineral first described in Japan 1944 by the Japanese petrologist for which it is named after, Ken-ichi Sugi. Shari adorned this beautiful smooth 25 x 16mm AAA-quality sugilite briolette with a cluster of amethyst, rose quartz and spinel rondelles. Alternating along the main section is hand wrapped faceted rose quartz and smooth round sugilite beads attached to oxidized sterling silver chain.

The sterling silver chain is oxidized to add depth, definition and interest. Oxidizing is a process that is used to create an effect similar to antiquing or artificially tarnishing metal jewelry. At btwisted we use a variety of patinas on many of our pieces.

The necklace measures 21 inches end-to-end. The focal point hangs down nearly 2 inches and the closure is a fancy hook and eye with Shari's signature butterfly charm.
