Modern Madonna Tinted Photo by George B. Petty, Chicago
The artist George B. Petty III was a photographer and published hand tinted photos similar to the Wallace Nutting ones. His son George Petty IV is well known for his pinup illustrations.
The portrait is surrounded by a beige indented matting. It bears an embossed stamp below the portrait of "Petty Studio Chicago."
The wood frame measures approximately 18 3/4" tall and 15 3/4" wide. It has glass on the front, a cardboard backing with remnants of the dustcover, and a wire for hanging.
The frame shows some surface scratches. I don't see any damage to the portrait, but there is some foxing on the mat in the lower left area (see photos).
A beautiful and serene portrait.
