Exquisite Pair of Sterling Edwardian To Deco Era Bar Pins Brooch

Each bar pin has one clear hand set paste stone in the center and eight small light green or peridot colored paste stones, four that are arranged around the center stone and two each on either end of the pin. One of the clear paste stones is just slightly discolored and one of the small glass stones is a shade lighter than the rest. All of the paste stones are set with a 2 prong slice setting. The 2 prong slice setting is when the jeweler places the stone in its place and then uses an incredibly hot instrument that can melt silver, carefully swipes a small amount of silver from the pin over the edge of the stone which holds the stone in place like a prong.

What is very interesting about these bar pins is the locking clasp. Normally when you open the clasp you push the clasp backward and the stem can be released, but these two pins are just the opposite. When you push the clasp backward it closes and locks the stem in place and when you pull it forward it releases the stem.

Each bar pin measures 2" long and 1/4" wide and marked STERLING.

All of the stones still sparkle in this amazing set. There are age related issues such as a couple of small chips or flea bites in the tiny stones but the overall condition is great!

Original patina has been left undisturbed.
