I love architectural antiques especially cast iron, well this piece is a real work of art. this is a fence top rail with cast iron hearts decorating the top above the rail. I have never seen this form before and feel this is an excellent example of early 20th century iron work.
The piece is 68" long 2" wide and the bar is 5/8" thick. There are holes between each heart where the fence bars extended down. I think this is a wonderful piece of Folk Art and would look wonderful mounted on a wall as art.
Each of the 11 hearts is 5 1/4" tall x 4 3/4" wide. The paint is black and in excellent worn condition, excellent patina. Found in North Central Connecticut around Clinton.
