A wonderful piece of Americana. This horse is from a small carousel ride, possibly a portable unit or even one made for a private park.
The horse is in original paint and the surface is wonderful with original finish is excellent. The horse body is hollow and the head and legs are solid carvings. There is no indication of the carver or the company that made the carousel. We would estimate it's age at late 1800's to early 1900's. We found it in a collection in Virginia.
The horse is mounted on a running board that was mounted on a circular frame. The board is cut at an angle so that several of these boards with carved animals on them made a circle.
The horse is 40" long x 10 1/2" wide x 26" tall. The board is 59 1/2" long x11 1/2" wide.
There are some issues to the right shoulder but otherwise the horse is in wonderful solid condition.
