The oldest trophy I have seen outside of a museum.
1880 Winchester College located in the United Kingdom was established in 1382 in Winchester, UK.
The trophy cup stands 4" tall x 2 7/8" w at mouth and 3 1/4" w at base.
Cup has a pewter lining, bottom and handle with slat wood sides. It appears to be an exotic wood that I do not recognize.
The top band is inscribed: "Win.Coll." next band: " Flat Race 1/4 Mile 2nd Place" next band: "D. G. Hogarth 1880"
The engraving is in a wonderful old type face.
Bottom is hallmarked: "AB*S" over "2032"
This is by Atkin Brothers, which was started by Thomas Law in the mid 1700's it became Henry Atkin & co. Sheffield in 1840.
A real interesting rare cup in good condition.
