A very striking painted single Indian club, clubs were sold and used in pairs however in some cases only one of a pair survived. This one is beautifully painted in red, black and blue. The club is in excellent condition and weighs around 3 lbs and is 22" tall x 4" across body. The club stands wonderfully for display. It has a carved grip and a brass decoration on the top of the handle.
Indian clubs were used in the mid to late 1800's and just into the 1900's for exercise purposes. Persons did routines with them and also participated in competitions. Many clubs were decorated by their owners to suit there individual taste, this is what has made them an interesting folk art collectible.
