Antique Baseball Scoreboard

This scoreboard came from a betting, billiard parlor in Altoona, PA. The board was used to track game scores as they were reported via teletype or radio in the early 1900's. Patrons would bet on the games and then the scores were reported and marked on the board as the games progressed.

The clothing shop advertised at the top was in business as a high end men's clothing shop in Altoona, we found indications that they were there in the late 1800's but do not know how long they were in business.

The first baseball game on the radio was in was August 5, 1921 the Phillies vs Pirates. We feel the board dates to some time in this era or earlier.

The board is a chalk board with a wooden frame the background appears to be a Linoleum (invented in 1855) type material. The paint is original however it appears some changes were made to the copy on the board sometime during it's use. The finish on the wooden frame around the board is original and has a wonderful aged surface. The back is wooden frame which supports the board readily.

The board is 9' 9 3/4" long x 6' 7/8" over all. It is a very sturdy piece with some weight to it.
