This is a wonderful old piece of Weller pottery. The piece is made in the form of a hanging basket or planter - there are three holes drilled into the top below the rim that would allow the piece to be hung from a ceiling or overhang. The piece is decorated in burnt orange and green satin glaze and with a pattern consisting of flowers and leaves. It is actually the interior of the piece that is stamped with a mark that reads "Weller Ware" - this mark was used from the about 1908 until 1925. The Weller Ware mark is on the interior of the piece as there would have been no room for it on the bottom due to the patterning all around. The pattern looks to be influenced by Arts and Crafts period design.
The piece measures 6 5/8" in diameter and has a height of 3 3/8" - it weighs 1 lb and 5 oz. It is in very good condition - there are a series of tiny burst glaze bubbles on the top of the rim (see photos) and a few very small scuff/wear marks on the bottom, caused by surface contact and very minor. Otherwise, this piece has no chips or cracks and is a very well preserved example.
There is a wonderful piece of Weller pottery. Great addition to a collection.
