This is a gorgeous quality art glass figurine made in Murano Italy that I am attributing to Licio Zanetti. Licio Zanetti founded The Zanetti Art Glass Company with his father Oscar in 1956. He is considered a master amongst the Murano glassblowers and the Zanetti family is somewhat dynastic with many Zanetti family members becoming well known glassblowers. The piece is unsigned, but I am attributing it to Licio Zanetti as he produced this type of figurine - similar examples can be seen in the book by Leslie Pina "Italian Glass Century 20" on page 198. I've also seen the same figure signed on the underside very lightly. The quality of the glass is undeniable on this piece - very clear and skillfully blown. The seal is balanced on a large ball that has a number of large air bubbles in it. The glass is clear except for opaque charcoal gray along the seal's back. He measures 9 1/4" to the top of his nose and is very heavy for his size, weighing 2.575 kilos (5 lbs and 11 oz).
