This is a wonderful hand painted miniature watercolor portrait of a lady that dates to the 19th century. It is done on paper, which is stuck to cardboard. The piece is cut down and in an old brass covered tin frame - the frame is stamped on its back with "K & Co". I'm unsure of its origin as it was acquired at an estate sale, however, I'm assuming that the frame is American due to the company designation. That being said, I also assume that the portrait is American, even though the painting could have been put into the frame at a later date. Those familiar with Federal style painting should be able to identify this painting. The painting is very well executed - please enlarge the close-up photo for an enlarged look at the detail of the piece. The painted portrait area measures about 1 ½" high by 1" wide while the frame measures 2 ¼" square. The piece is in very good condition with no perceptible fading. The painting is unsigned. This is quite the lovely painting - skillfully executed and in very nice condition….Please click on any photo in order to enlarge for a better view.
