This set if six (6) sterling silver cocktail forks is simply stunning! They we made by Whiting Mfg. Co. which was purchased by Gorham in 1924.
These cocktail forks have a beautiful scroll design along the entire length of the handles. They still have much of the original gold wash on the bowls and tines. Each fork has a beautiful “M” monogram on the handle done in English script. The pattern name is “Heraldic”, a fitting name for these lovely pieces of workmanship. When serving your favorite appetizers, these forks would certainly add “a touch of class”.
The back of the handles bear the Whiting logo, a lion with the letter “W” in a circle, the word “Sterling” and the number “10” at the base of each handle. Five (5) of the forks also have the name “Bailey, Banks & Biddle”, this probably being the name of the fine jeweler where the forks were purchased.
The scroll design are on both the front and the reverse side of the handles. The forks are 6 ¼” long and ¾” wide at the base of the tines. The condition is very good, circa 1880’s.
