This pastry server is strikingly beautiful. Due to the elaborate decorations the general motif is of German males sitting around a tavern drinking ale and have a friendly conversation. These designs are accompanied by beautiful scroll cut work.
I am absolutely positive that when serving any pastry with this server, the comments will be vast and very complimentary.
The is no way to accurately determine the age or exact region of Germany with respect to this server, due to the fact that they followed no reliable order of recording their respective marks.
This pastry server has three (3) distinct touch marks, these being: a key, a lion and maiden's head on the lower section. The touch marks are on the inside of the lower flat section – towards the upper left.
I am sure that this piece is silver plate but there is no wear through the silver, so I assume that the piece was used infrequently. The hinged mechanism is in perfect working order.
The server is 7" long X 1 ¾" wide (at its widest). The condition is very good, circa 1900 – 1910. There are no dents.
