This fancy sterling silver compote is absolutely magnificent. The overall detail is of veggies, fruit, flowers and leaf motif and is truly "life like". There is a combination of strawberries, corn with husks, pears, apples, large roses and grapes. WOW! The patterns are very clustered entwined with varieties of leaves and vines.
The border on the compote is 2 3/8" wide. The pedestal is plain but the base of the compote has the same repousse motif as the upper border. The motif on the base is 1 ¼ " wide.
The concave section of the compote is plain with the various touch marks (4) of the maker bordering the repousse. Unfortunately the touch marks are so faint that I am not able to identify the maker or the symbols.
The compote is 4 ½" tall X 9" wide (across the top) X 3 5/8" (across the base). This compote is in very good condition. At one time it is my opinion that the base was filled with a compound and had a thin wooden piece covering the compound. The base is now open. There are no cracks or dents, circa early 1800's.
