This antique sampler, in new framing, is simply exceptional. The fourteen (14) small samples of "pulled-worked" stitching are all on a muslin background. Each small insert is also edged in a finely done scallop work of crochet.
The creator of this piece signed it with her/his initials "EW" with the date of "1806". The initials and date are also done in the "pulled stitch" work approach. The entire piece is edged with an interlocking border that is crocheted and applied to the muslin in a mustard and green.
I feel the simplicity of the design adds a great deal of uniqueness to the sampler. It is finely done and is truly a joy to view.
The fabric portion is 8" X 10", while the frame is 15 ¾" X 18". The condition is very good, with one caveat, there is clearly discoloration to the muslin, not uncommon on a piece of this age.
