Birks Sterling Silver Eight (8) Piece Dresser Set, Vintage

The set includes: 1) a ladies small hand mirror, 2) a large hand mirror, 3) a covered powdered jar, 4) hair brush with handle, 5) a long brush, 6) fingernail file, 7) hair comb and, 8) manicure scissors. This fantastic set was manufactured by Birk and each piece is stamped "Birks & Sterling".

I certainly can see this set on a ladies makeup stand or dresser. The etched decoration is not only heavily detailed but encompasses the entire tops and handles of each piece. There is a monogram in the center of each piece which is an "F" in Old English style.

The dimensions are as follows:

1. the small hand mirror is 8" long X 3 ½" at widest point, 2. the large handle mirror is 12" long X 4 ¾" at widest point, 3. the powder jar is 4" wide X 1 ¾' high, 4. the hair brush with the handle is 10" (from handle end to top of the mirror) X 2 ¾" (at the widest point) X 1 ¼" high, 5. the long brush without a handle is 6 ¼" X 2" wide X 1 ½" high, 6. the fingernail file has a sterling silver handle and is 4 ½" long X ¾" (at widest point) X 7 ¾" long (including the file), 7. the hair comb has a sterling silver top and is 7 ¾" long X ¼" wide, and the teeth are 2" long, and 8. the manicure scissors have sterling silver handles which are 2" long X 2" wide – the scissor blades are 1 ¾" long and the overall scissors are 3 ½" long.

The overall condition of this set is very good. The mirrors have imperfections but I would expect such due to the age and use of this set. The manicure scissors is the only piece that has a stamp which reads "Made is Sheffield, England", circa 1940-50's.
