Antique 18th Century Chalkware Dog, Poodle

This poodle chalkware decorated dog is stately looking. His stance gives him the look of a very independent dog. The surface of this poodle still retains its original color which is a chalk white body with black ears, eye brows and tail. The eyes are a mustardy yellow and his nostrils and lips are the original red. There is a smattering of mustard, green and red sponged paint on the top of his head and across the breast area of his chest.

I am amazed that he is still in tack not only due to his age but also due to the light weight of this piece of chalkware.

The chalkware is 7 ¾" tall X 6 ½" long X 3 ¼" wide. The base is 5 ¼" long X 3 ¼" wide.

The overall condition is very good. There are overall scuff marks and paint loss but since he's been around for two centuries, he's in remarkable shape. The is one chip on the rim edge of the base. There are no cracks or hairlines. Circa late 18th century.
