Antique Ivory Figural Netsuke

This antique Japanese 19th century netsuke is a carving depicting an Asian man kneeling on top of a turtle. His arms are crossed across his chest and he has a carved mask attached to his back.

The detail of the turtle is great with his head extending beyond his shell. On the bottom of the turtle's shell there is a signature of the artist. I purchased this Netsuke from an old time antique dealer who had a wonderful collection of Netsuke's as well as many other categories.

The Netsuke is 2 ¼" tall X 1" wide X 1 ¼" (front to back). The condition of this piece is very good. There are some hairlines in the ivory, which is certainly very normal for a piece of this age. These hairlines are not cracks, but truly hairlines. Circa 1840-50's.

Under California Penal Code 653o it is unlawful for us to sell ivory pieces to residences of California.
