This set of twelve (12) sterling silver fruit or berry spoons is incredible. The weight alone is amazing. The set weighs 10.5 troy ounces.
The manufacture is Towle and the pattern name is “Colonial” (Old Colonial). The pattern was introduced in 1895. The stamps on the back of each spoon are “925/1000 – the Towle logo – Sterling – Pat. 1895”.
The design on each spoon is quite Victorian looking. The best way to describe the design is that there is a defined urn with a spiral finial in the center of the top of the spoon with an extended pediment cascading down each side of the urn. Below that is a small leaf decoration with beaded borders all the way down to the bowl of the spoon. Quite distinguished – to say the least!
The spoons are 5 ½” long X ¾” wide (across the handle). The bowl is 1 1/8” wide. The spoons have been used. Their condition is very good, circa 1895 – 1905.
