This hard paste Capodimonte (Ca-po-di-monte) covered box has a gold gilt brass hinged cover which is original to the box. The cover depicts nine (9) cupids dancing on land in front of a castle and mountains in the background. The full figures together with the trees, flowers and castle are raised.
The lower section of the box, on both the front and the back, have two (2) raised cupids, urn and flowers that are hand decorated. The two (2) ends of the lower box also have raised decoration.
The interior of this magnificent box is delicately decorated with sprigs of flowers.
Anyone, I assume, would want to leave this Capodimonte box where it would always be visible. It certainly is an eye catcher and will attract a great deal of attention. Personally I would put it on a coffee table or an end table. It’s simply beautiful!
The box is 5” long X 3 ½” wide X 2 ½” high. The “N” with the “blue crown mark” is inside the box on the back side. The brass latch on the cover is in very good working order. The box is in very good condition. There are two (2) minor niches on the right bottom rim. You would never see them when the box is sitting flat on a table or other surface. There are no cracks or hairlines. The circa of the box is 1890’s.
