Continental Majolica Match Holder, Vintage

This Continental figurine, with a straw hat, is resting on a log with his baskets and match striker. I love the look of this fellow. He certainly has his own personality. This figurine could be used in a bedroom or bathroom to hold soap, cotton balls, soap and a wash cloth or its intended use as a “smoking unit”.

We purchased a large collection of Majolica from an old friend and we are now in the process of cataloging and introducing the collection to the market. This piece of Majolica can be referenced in “Antique Majolica Around the House” by Jeffery B. Snyder, 2005, page 114.

This match holder is 7” high X 6 ½” long X 5 ½” wide. There are two old chips on one of the baskets and one old chip on the back rim of the figurine’s straw hat. There are no cracks or hairlines, circa 1900-1910.
