Bible, The New Testament, Greek & German, 1881 – Novum Testamentum Graece et Germanice, 1881 – signed Phillip Schaff, Jan. 1882

This book is very interesting. It is the new testament, written in both Greek and German. The Greek words are on each left page of the book, with the German words on the right pages. The publisher was Derlag don Bernhard Taudnitz, Leipzig, 1881. The book has partial marbleized front and back boards, gold gilt line tooling on both the front and back boards, gold gilt printing and raised bands on the spine as well as gold gilt on the page ends.

The book has the stamp of the "Library of the Theological Seminary – Union, New York" on three (3) different pages. What is extremely unusual about this copy is the signature of Phillip Schaff (dated Jan. 1882), a very famous church historian in the 1800's (1819-1893). Schaff actually tenured on the faculty of the Union Theological Seminary in New York. There is a clipping giving a brief history of his life that was in the book when we acquired it and will be included with the book. The book is 6" X 8 ¾" and consists of 457 pages.

The condition of the book, in our opinion, is fair to good. The binding is fairly tight, the pages are clean with some slight discoloration on the top of the pages.
