This Mettlach stein is ¼ L (litre) and has underglaze printing with etched designs of two figures dressed in German attire. The female is holding a rose in her hand and the male is holding a stein in celebration. The center etched design depicts a shield with an angel playing a stringed instrument. The piece is artist signed, possibly Colwarth, on the body.
The lid on this stein has a cameo shaped pottery insert depicting a shield with a red heart with and an arrow. The lid and its hinge work perfectly.
The marks on the bottom have the typical Mettlach logo, these being: “VB, Gegen Nachbildung, Geschurzt, 19, 95, II, 1725”.
The stein is 5 ½” tall, 3 ½” wide.
The condition is very good. There are no chips, cracks or hairlines.
