This heavily decorated Japanese Imari bowl has a scalloped edge with a gray clay cast and a thick glaze. The colors are a runny dark blue with a deep red opaque hues. On the center of the inside of the bowl, there’s a naïve painted tripod based pot and/or vase with gray cast flowers with whimsical looking leaves and shoots of orange flowers and sprigs. The inside and outside borders are paneled with birds and trees.
The bowl is 3 ½” high, 7 ½” wide – the base rim is 2 ½”.
The condition of this Imari bowl is very good due to its age but note that there are some imperfections in the glaze and also some sand residue in the glazing – not uncommon with many Imari pieces.
