Majolica – Pottery – Match Holder – Match Striker

This Jolly Monk with Ale Mug is a match striker (match holder), unidentified maker. This piece is also know as a smoke set. The marks impressed on the bottom are 8539 & 17.

The piece is 8” high, 5 ˝ “ wide and 6” in deep (front to back). It is in good condition, however, on the rear of the piece there are three small chips on its base, and three small chips on the top rim of the cigarette holder. There are no cracks or hairlines.
