Offered is an English oak tantalus with two cut decanters and two glasses. The third decanter is missing so the previous owner added two cut tumblers, one for the lady and one for the gentleman. The fittings are brass. I have not polished, but I did spray the key and keyhole with WD 40 to make sure it was in proper working order. I was told that the decanters are Irish. The glasses appear to be American, cut crystal. One decanter has a small bite underneath the rim but nothing to detract or see right side up. The stoppers have some nicks on the bottoms and one flea bite on the stopper round. Please see pics. The tantalus is in lovely condition. There are three velvet covered bottoms that one might want to replace. They are a bit worn, but it would be expected with the age. Overall measurements are as follows: Wooden tantalus 13 3/4" x 12" tall with handle. Decanters are 3 3/8" square x 9" tall. One glass is 3 5/8" tall x 2 5/8" at top and the other is 3 3/4" tall x 3" wide at top. The word tantalus comes from the word tantalize b/c this is exactly what a tantalus did. One would keep their locked spirits in it, and the decanters would not come out unless the top was unlocked. These are getting soooo pricey and hard to find at a reasonable price. C:1880
