Vintage, early 1920s very finest semi sheer Swiss cotton batiste wedding coverlet, Appenzell hand embroidery with exquisite monogram in center, E.H.P or E.H.T. The white work hand embroidery features sprays of roses, ribbon bows, clover, dots, and scrolls and swags. These fine sheer coverlets with beautiful Swiss fine cotton, embroidered by nuns, date to the 1910s and 1920s, and are usually found in English estates. This piece was in a group of linens belonging to a woman whose mother emigrated here from England, married in the early 1920s, and I was delighted to find this piece among them. These fine coverlets, which can be used with care on the table, had very heavy embroidery in relation to the fine sheer fabric, and unless laundered and pressed with care, tore easily around the embroidery, and thus are very, very rarely found without damage. I have dealt in antique and vintage textile for decades, and this one is in the best condition of any that I have ever handled, with just one, single tiny break as shown, NO other issues whatsoever.
It measures 89 x 108 inches. The fine sheer cotton batiste is woven in one piece, no seams, and has a hemstitched double border frame, and shadow stripes that intersect. Absolutely exquisite. It has been freshly hand laundered and ironed, and is ready for your immediate enjoyment. I with I will of course combine multiple item purchases for actual cost only shipping, by combined weight.
