Delicate cotton batiste European pillow sham, edged with crocheted lace and hand embroidered with garlands of leaves, fastens at back with mother of pearl buttons. This was in the estate of an Italian American bride, and much of the linen was wedding gifts from family members in Italy, early 1920s. It has a small break in the cotton on the back with a corresponding thin or weak spot on the front. This would have been due to contact with a chemical, rather than wear, and is slightly discolored in this tiny spot, as shown. There are some weave flaws in the fine cotton that at first might look like very fine mends, but are not, they are simply weave flaws. Also on the back, too tiny to photograph, are some pin point thread breaks, also from contact with whatever caused the tiny chemical burn. These tiny specks do NOT affect the front. It is actually a very sound piece barring the tiny breaks in the back, and would be lovely on the bed in a decorative capacity.
The pillow insert area measures 19 x 29.5 inches, the rare Euro sham that was actually intended for use with an American sized pillow. The overall measurements are 38.25 x 27.5 inches. It has been freshly hand laundered and is ready for your immediate use. Priced for condition.
