Elegant French Aubusson tapestry evening bag from the 1920's. Romantic scene of two lovers in the style of paintings by Boucher and Fragonard with a landscape on the reverse. Wonderful vivid colors and textures done in wool and silk. The substantial brass frame is heavily embossed with flower blossoms spilling out of the basket in the center. Small baskets hold the chain attached at each end. Inside the original soft grey-blue silk lining with pouch still retains the silk backed mirror. Interior is in good condition considering the age. The purse measures a large size 9" wide by 7.5" tall. The tapestry is in very good vintage condition with no missing or loose threads that I can see. The clasp works fine. One side of the frame has a small gap when closed (see photo). On the front, someone has re-secured the purse to the frame with white stitches. These have been mentioned for accuracy, but are minor issues and do not detract and are typical of vintage pieces.
